The Hoima city security committee headed by the Resident City Commissioner Badru Mugabi has resolved that the occupants on a piece of land claimed by Uganda Police along Percy Road should continue using the land as the process of verification of ownership and opening of land boundaries marks kicks off.
The resolution was reached during a crisis security meeting that sat on Tuesday at the office of the RCC in Hoima city to intervene in a scuffle that ensued between the traders and police as the latter kicked off the marking of structures and houses it claims are sitting on its land.
Speaking to Spice FM after the meeting, Badru Mugabi the Hoima RCC says they have told the traders to go back and continue with their activities normally adding that they will now follow all the available laws to ascertain the ownership of the land.
Badru says they have asked Uganda Police to open boundaries and confirm the coordinates of the land it claims ownership and a 1983 layout plan of the city should be brought to the table to identify who are the real occupants by then and how new occupants obtained land in the area.
Meanwhile, Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine regional police spokesperson clarified that the occupants were not evicted but rather the building sitting on the police land were marked.
“This action was taken after the occupants failed to vacate the land within 14 days, despite receiving a warning letter”. Hakiiza told Spice FM on Tuesday evening
The police mouthpiece further revealed that they have since opened a general inquiry file to investigate the matter adding that they are ready to receive any complaint or an allegation
“Some business community members have claimed to have obtained titles to the land, which will be investigated”, he added.
