Police in Bunyoro region have warned boda boda riders against breaking traffic rules and regulations which has escalated the accident cases in the region.

This warning has been issued by the Albertine South regional police spokesperson SP Julius Allan Hakiiza while speaking to Spice FM in an exclusive interview on Monday afternoon.

Hakiiza’s warning follow the nasty accident that killed two boda boda riders on spot over the weekend after a head-on motorcycle crash in Rwengaga cell in Mabaale Town Council. The accident involved motorcycles all Bajaj Boxer models with registration numbers UMA 461DK and UAA 111JA.

The deceased were identified and Steven Byamukama, 25, a boda boda rider from Nyampindu cell in Pacwa town council and Richard Ainemojuni a resident of Mabaale town council in Kagadi District. The bodies have since been handed over to their relatives for burial arrangements.

Hakiiza has attributed the accident to reckless riding in an urban setting.

Now the Regional Police mouthpiece says most accidents in the region are attributed to reckless riding and driving without any respect for traffic rules and regulations coupled with over speeding even in town areas.

Hakiiza has appealed to all riders to always ensure tame their speeds especially while making diversions. He has also asked boda boda riders to exhibit respect for indicators by other road users among other road signs that should always guide them on what to do on the road.
