Hoima District Commissions Over UGX 500M Projects at Gov’t Schools, Health Center, and Market

The leadership of Hoima district local government has on Monday commissioned several key infrastructure projects worth over UGX 500 million across the district at a number of government schools and health facility as well as at one market in the district.

Among the commissioned facilities include staff quarters at Kiseke Health Center II in Kitoba sub county, a classroom block at St Paul Kapaapi primary school in Kapaapi Sub County and another classroom block at Bukona primary school in Kisukuma Sub County as well as a pit latrine at Kigorobya Town Council market.

At Kiseke Health Center II in Kitoba town council the project was constructed by Lubra Constructors at a cost of UGX 220M and funded under the District Discretionary Equalization Grant (DDEG) and is expected to improve service delivery at the facility by housing health workers closer to the facility.

At St. Paul Kapapi Primary School with an enrolment of over 1400 pupils in Kapapi Sub County, the new three-classroom block was built by Basingo Construction Company at UGX 177M and funded under the Special School Facilitation Grant (SFG).

At Bukona Primary School the new two-classroom block was constructed by Basingo Construction Company at UGX 120M to provide a better learning environment.

The school headteacher Jane Kugonza commended government for the support but noted the school still faces challenges. With 800 pupils and only 7 teachers including herself, there still remains a huge staffing remains stretched.

At Kigorobya Town Council market a three-stance pit latrine was also commissioned. The facility, constructed by Bisoge Enterprise at UGX 21M, was funded under the rural water grant to improve sanitation for vendors and customers.

Uthuman Mugisha Mubarak the LCV chairman Hoima district explained to that they have commissioned a number of projects in both health and education sectors.

Mugisha says as district they are working on number of things in the district to improve service delivery and be among the best performing districts.

He adds that after constructing a number of schools they now want improved performance among the learners.

Presiding over the commissioning, Hoima Deputy RDC Christopher Aine urged Bukona Primary School administration among other government schools to renovate existing old classroom blocks to complement the new ones.
