The Resident District Commissioner for Kikuube has attributed the continued school dropout rates in primary schools across the district due to the declining responsibility of parents to provide necessary scholastic materials and other requirements to their children.
The RDC’s comments come at a time when parents and leaders in Kidoma parish in Kiziranfumbi sub county, Kikuube district are pushing for a collective effort toward improving the declining enrolment and the education standards at Kihangi Primary school, a government school located in their area.
Information available reveals that the school which used to have an enrollment of 800 pupils, is now having only 180 pupils with a declining performance in the primary leaving examinations (PLE) over the years. The trend of increasing school dropouts is mostly observed in upper classes at Kihangi and other primary schools especially in Kyangwali Sub County.
Now the RDC Godwin Angalia says this worrying trend is blamed on parents who have since dropped their responsibility and roles of providing for the growing list of needs as their children advance to upper classes especially their girl children. Angalia says they have continued carrying out sentizations at every opportunity inorder to remind the parents and other stakeholders of their responsibility.
He has urged them to take keep up their cardinal roles and ensure their children complete education.
