The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara diocese has rallied the clergy and laity in the entire diocese to embrace unity as a pillar for continued progress and development.

The Bishop was addressing the media on Thursday shortly after the conclusion of the three day engagement of the inaugurated 25th diocesan Synod at St Peter’s Cathedral Duhaga in Hoima West division in Hoima City. The Synod brought together over 400 delegates from across all churches in the diocese.

Bishop Ateirweho commended the unity which has prevailed for the past years and called for the continued spirit as they strive to build the Kingdom of God in the hearts of the people as the diocesan 2026 theme of “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Stability and peace”.

Ateirweho tasked all stakeholders in churches to continuing working together, remain faithful to God ensuring they fight for stability and peace in their institutions at all times.

The Bishop also revealed that they passed a resolution directing all churches to open bank accounts to keep all church funds for increased safety noting that keeping them homes of treasures increases the risk of making losses. He therefore rallied all priests, lay leaders, head of laity and treasures in church to follow the policy of saving all church funds in bank accounts or other financial institutions.

The Diocesam head of laity Robert Owagonza welcomed the resolutions of the Synod of focusing on developmental projects for the diocese, streamlining ministry in churches for uniformity, ensuring the elected leaders perform their roles noting that leadership comes from God.

He called for unity and cooperation among all church leaders and members if their growth is to be realized.

During the Synod Cousel Robert Irumba Rwahwire was elected the new diocesan Chancellor who will also chair the instituted diocesan tribunal responsible for handling issues raised against misbehavior of the clergy. Robert Owagonza and Alice Kabasana retained their positions as Head of Laity and Assistant Head of Laity respectively.
