Police in Masindi District are investigating an incident in which a 40-year-old man had his hand chopped off by suspected panga-wielding assailants.
The attack occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday in Kirasa Cell, Central Division, Masindi Municipality.
The victim, identified as Mugenyi Twaha, is currently receiving treatment at Masindi General Hospital.
According to Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, the attackers allegedly targeted Twaha while he was asleep. In an attempt to defend himself, one of the assailants severed his hand with a panga.
Mugisa said preliminary investigations suggest the suspects may have intended to kill Twaha, as they reportedly entered his bedroom armed with pangas.
Police have launched investigations into the attack and are appealing to members of the public with any information that could help identify or arrest the suspects to report to the nearest police station.
