A Senior Three student of Kyakabadiima Parents Secondary School in Kyakabadiima sub county, Kagadi District, has collapsed and died during a football training session.
The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Richard Byamukama. He reportedly collapsed and died instantly on Monday evening at around 6:30 p.m. while training at the Kyakabadiima Primary School football grounds.
According to information gathered by Uganda Radio Network (URN), Byamukama and his fellow students had gone for a routine training session when tragedy struck just minutes after they began. John Karuhanga, a resident, said they were alerted by the screams of Byamukama’s colleagues calling for help after he collapsed.
“We rushed to the field, but unfortunately, he had already passed away by the time we arrived,” Karuhanga said. The school’s Director of Studies, Pedrig Birungi, told URN that the student had shown no signs of illness before his sudden death.
Vincent Byamukama, the Officer In-Charge of Kyakabadiima Police Post, confirmed the incident and said police had launched investigations. He said the student’s body was taken to Kagadi General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
