Over 500 people who recently invaded government land in Madwiga rural in Butoole parish in Kyangwali sub-county in Kikuube district have been chased out of the land by Albertine regional security team.

The land in question measuring over 3000 acres of land registered under Nguse Ranchers Limited was acquired by government after the compensation of the landlords who include the Minister for Public Service Mururi Mukasa and the Late John Bahemuka among others using land Fund.

The residents who had constructed thousands of makeshifts on the land while cultivating were chased away from the land by security on Wednesday after a security meeting which was chaired by the Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusiime and attended by Albertine region police commander Vicente Mwesigye and  Commissioner of RDC’S  President’s office  Sister Mary Akiroro and area MP Francis Kazini

The residents include those who were evicted from the land in 2010 and others who claim that the landlords had sold them some pieces of land on the contested land.

Speaking during the meeting, RDC Tumusiime said that all these who had bought the land after the compensation, had bought nothing and were cheated by the people who sold them the land.

However, Akiroro wondered how the groups invaded started sharing the land describiing them as land grabbers.

She said soon the Minister of lands Judith Nabakoba will visit the area to see how the rights of the Bibanja holders will be protected and considered.

RPC Mwesigye warned the residents against taking the law in their hands adding that invading the land was illegal and asked them to vacate the land in peace.

John Bosco Mugisha, one of the residents of Kasoga village said he settled on the land after late Bahemuka’s son one Johnson Mbabazi sold him five acres of land in January this year.

After the meeting the group were forced to demolish and burn the makeshift structures which they had erected on the land and ordered to leave.
