Former Police FC Coach Abdallah Mubiru has been named Assistant Coach for the Uganda Women’s Senior National Football team, the Crested Cranes.
The team is currently preparing to host Algeria for the 2024 Women’s AFCON qualifiers on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the FUFA Technical Centre.
Mubiru steps into the role previously held by Ayubu Khalifa Kiyingi, who served as the Assistant Coach since March, and is now in charge of the Under-20 team. To support Mubiru, former Crested Cranes star Oliver Mbekeka was named second Assistant Coach while Stephen Kiggundu is the goalkeeper trainer.
For nearly eight months, the Crested Cranes have not had a head coach since the position was declared vacant by FUFA in March. During that time FUFA designated Khalifa, to assume the role of Assistant Head Coach and still maintained a search for a Senior National Women’s Team Coach.
Meanwhile, Abdallah Mubiru returns to active coaching after a brief sabbatical following the conclusion of his tenure with the Tanzanian club, Mbeya City, at the end of the previous season.
He has previously served as assistant to Johnathan McKinstry when the latter was appointed as the head coach of the Uganda Cranes and later held the head coach role as interim when FUFA parted ways with McKinstry. On the club level, Mubiru has previously coached Proline, KCCA, Vipers, and Police among others.
