District education officers across the country have been challenged to fight against the increasing acts of corporal punishment in schools.
Ismail Mulindwa, the Director, Basic and Secondary Education Ministry of education said that of recent the Ministry has registered several numbers of corporal punishment cases.
While speaking on the behalf of the permanent secretary Ministry of Education at the annual municipal and district education officer’s retreat at Hoima Resort Hotel on Tuesday, Mulindwa has said that cases of death have been registered as result of corporal punishment.
The retreat which attracted over 100 DEOs from different parts of the country was aimed at discussing ways on how to address challenges affecting the education system.
He says there is need for education officers to prevail over this vice to ensure peace and security in schools since they are field commanders for the education sector.
He noted that the ministry of education has written several circulars to education officers regarding corporal punishment but the problem has instead persisted.
The Hoima City principle Johnson Baingana has on government to come out and clarify on the education Act of 2008 which mandates education stakeholders who include parents to support education if it is still in operation.
