The Hoima High Court circuit has today completed cross examining the Hoima City Woman MP Asinansi Nyakato following an election petition challenging her victory in the January election.

The election petition was filed by Princess Diana Jane Mugenyi, the former NRM candidate for Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament.

Mugenyi lost the election to Asinansi Nyakato of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), who was declared the winner with 17,142 votes against Mugenyi’s 15,197.

Other candidates were National Unity Platform-NUP’s Bridget Kiiza, who obtained 1,362 votes, and independent candidate Nalumaga Sylvia Balyesiima, who polled 1,009 votes. The results were gazetted on February 6, 2026.

The Court presided over by Hon Justice Charles Kasibayo cross examined Nyakato and some of her witnesses as she defended her victory. Justice Kasibayo announced November 13 as the ruling date for the petition throwing both parties in the petition.

Speaking to Journalists after today’s court process both Nyakato and Princess Diana hailed journalists for balanced reporting and their supporters for standing with them during the court process.

They called for calm and patience among the supporters as they wait for the court ruling in November. They called on them to return to work as they wait for final decision from the court with each party hoping for victory.
