Boat Accident Victims Recovered:Lake Bunyonyi

The bodies of three people who drowned in Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district after the canoe they were sailing in capsized have been retrieved.

The deceased have been identified as Johnbosco Tumuhereza, Felix Arineitwe and Firicano Turyahikayo, all residents of Katetenkora village in Nyamiryango Parish in Kabale district.  The trio drowned around 6:30 pm on Tuesday when their canoe, which had six people on board capsized after being hit by a strong wave.

The remaining people identified as Agnes Kabuzi, Suzan Tayewa and Tito Kanyonyozi, all residents of Katetenkora were rescued by residents. They were sailing to their homes after attending a youth political meeting at Nyamiryango parish headquarters.

Dickson Kamuhanda, a resident of the area, says the deceased’s bodies were recovered by local divers from the lake around 2 pm on Wednesday.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says the bodies were found about 300 meters from where the accident occurred.
