The government of Uganda has not budgeted for any compensation regarding the Hoima City’s AFCON city roads, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has told Parliament

In Prime Minister’s time, during yesterday’s plenary chaired by Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth, the Hoima East division member of parliament Hon. Patrick Isingoma disclosed that project affected persons for the AFCON roads project in Hoima City have filed a petition in court contesting government’s move to construct the roads without giving compensation.

Isingoma warned that the dispute could negatively impact and disrupt preparations for AFCON 2027 in the City. He called on government to avail funds for compensation.

In resposnse, Prime Minister Nabbanja revealed that there is no compensation given while constructing roads in cities, including Kampala, noting that the scope of the existing road is utilized.

The prime minister further added that there will not be compensation for project affected persons in Hoima City, noting that the component was not budgeted for. “These roads existed before and we are not expanding the scope of those roads”

The Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama backed the Prime Minister by noting that Hoima was a Town Council that was later elevated to Municipal level and then to a City.

He added that the City has a proper plan including gazetted roads; and the AFCON roads being worked on are access roads that were already existent, and not new roads.
