The Masindi district security committee has warned members of the public on engaging in theft of materials for the two AFCON infrastructure facilities under construction.
The ongoing construction is at Masindi general hospital and Masindi Stadium all located in the town centre of Masindi.
Speaking to Spice FM exclusively on Friday, Darius Nandinda, the head of the district security committee says security agencies are committed to protecting the projects and ensuring that anyone found stealing construction materials faces the law.
Nandida who is also the RDC noted that the two government projects have created employment opportunities for local residents and encouraged people, especially graduates of the Presidential Industrial Hub in Kiryana, to take advantage of the available jobs instead of engaging in criminal activities.
Nandinda added that construction works are progressing well and expressed optimism that both projects will be completed by December this year. He urged the public to cooperate with engineers and contractors to ensure the timely completion of the projects.
The projects form part of Uganda’s infrastructure development ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). On June 12, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja officially launched the construction of the Shs58 billion Masindi Hospital.
Earlier, in April, Peter Ogwang, the Minister of State for Sports, launched the construction of the Shs20.2 billion St. George Stadium in Masindi. The six-month project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026.
