Christians in Hoima City have been implored to exhibit bravery and remain firm to their faith amid life challenges they face on a daily in order to attain successful lives.

The call has been made by Rev Father Edward Baharagate in his sermon during today’s morning mass on Martyrs Day at Our Lady of Lourdes, Bujumbura Catholic Parish in Hoima West division, Hoima City.

Rev Father Edward Baharagate has revealed that the 45 Christian converts (22 Catholic and 23 Anglican) who were executed on the orders of King Mwanga II between1885-1887 are today being recognized and honored, due to their commitment and bravery, in which they chose to undergo suffering for the sake of Jesus Christ whom they firmly believed.

The Cleric added that, there are several life challenges like sorrow, hunger, wars, tribulations, persecution, loss of loved ones, but among all, Christians need to remain firm, knowing that the grace and love of Christ will see them through to victory in their lives. He emphasized bravery and confidence are key to remain steadfast in one’s faith.

He reaffirmed that death is not final destination of a person revealing that, even though the 45 Uganda martyrs lost their earthly lives, they are now living in another spiritual life interceding for living Christians.

He used today’s sermon to speak about the characters exhibited by several martyrs like Gonzaga Gonza, St Kirigwaijo, Denis Ssebugwawo among others whom he says exhibited selflessness in helping the different categories of people and remained firm amid intimidations from powerful authorities.
