The government of Uganda has this morning distributed thousands of nets to several Bunyoro districts with an aim of curbing malaria especially among the children.

This is part of 25.8 million nets that the ministry of health is distributing across 130 districts to curb malaria across the entire country with each net planned for two people.

In Hoima City, leaders received a total of 1,995 bales of mosquito nets to be distributed the 16 wards of the City.

While flagging off the nets, Hajji Badru Mugabi, the Hoima RCC asked security agencies to intensify intelligence to ensure the nets are not misused by selling them illegally. He has asked the ward agents and all people concerned with the distribution of nets to do their work transparently adding that the nets are enough for the City’s population.

Jobile Cornelius, the Hoima City Deputy Town Clerk, has cautioned those in charge of the distribution not to mess with the exercise saying government has invested a lot of money which should not be taken for granted.

In Hoima district, the leaders have received a total of 158,850 mosquito nets this morning at the district headquarters in Kasingo cell, Hoima West division.

The trucks fully loaded with 3,177 bales of the nets were officially received and flagged off for distribution by the Assistant Hoima RDC Mr. Sonko Bogere, together with other district leaders.

Evelyn Businge, the Principal Assistant Secretary who represented the Chief Administrative officer (CAO) says the mosquito nets distribution is a boost to the fight against malaria more especially among children.

The district Vice Chairperson Hellen Mulumba commended the government for its commitment to fighting malaria. She adds that if the mosquito nets are put to right use, the rate of malaria infections will continue to drastically reduce in the district.

In Kikuube district, the RDC Angalia Godwin joined by other leaders have also received 330,300 treated mosquito nets as part of government’s campaign to kick out malaria out the district.

Angalia urged beneficiaries to prioritize prevention through proper hygiene and behavioral change and cautioned them against misusing the nets for unintended purposes.
