Fuel Scarcity Hits Hoima City

Hoima city’s fuel stations are currently struggling with fuel scarcity with many of them having dry pumps while others no longer selling their products in bulk.

Speaking to managers of different fuel stations this morning, a number of them have revealed that, the situation has escalated in the past few days, expressing confusion about the cause of scarcity in the Albertine region.

Nelson Ochelimo, the Stabex Albertine region manager confirmed experiencing a challenge in supplies highlighting that the volume of fuel coming in is not matching with the demand in the market.

He says they have been forced to raise prices of fuel and diesel with a liter of petroleum now costing between sh6000-shs 7000 while a liter of diesel costing shs. 5,400.

He further adds that if the situation continues, they expect the prices to increase further thereby urging the government come in to stabilize the situation.

James Baguma, a pump attendant at Stabex Fuel station says they no longer sell fuel in bulk due to the current situation in order to accommodate more buyers.

Julius Kyomuhendo, a boda boda rider at Kibingo boda boda stage has urged the government to intervene in the situation claiming that they no longer get good profits due to fuel price increases.
