Police in the Albertine South region has warned locals in the region over the growing vandalism of car parts and valuables, a trend, police says is as a result of a shift from motorcycle thefts.
This has been revealed by SP Julius Allan Hakiiza the regional police spokesperson while addressing journalists on Monday at the headquarters in Kijungu cell in Hoima East division in Hoima City.
Hakiiza revealed that joint security teams have recently escalated campaigns against motorcycle thefts and cases have since declined however a new trend is cropping up of vandalizing and stealing from vehicles especially parked cars.
Hakiiza revealed that thieves are targeting cars parked in unsecure locations and they end up vandalizing parts like lights, mirrors, number plates and in some cases they go away will valuables found in the cars. He now warns car owners to take responsibility and keep vigilant over the growing criminality by ensuring they protect their vehicles in secure environments.
