President Yoweri Museveni has intervened in the ongoing land conflict in Kyankwanzi district in which locals are accusing the National Forest Authority of encroaching on their land in a recent boundary re-opening exercise.
Museveni on Tuesday was represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, together with a team of technocrats, engaged residents neighbouring Tala, Luwunga, and Kikonda Central Forest Reserves to provide the lasting solution over the ongoing land issues.
The residents in the past weeks have raised concerns that their pieces of land were annexed by the officials and added to the forest reserve lands during the recent boundary re-opening exercise.
While delivering the President’s message, The Premier assured the residents that they would not be evicted from the land they have been occupying for decades.
The president however, discouraged the residents from encroaching on forest reserves and urged them to use their land productively to improve household incomes
Later, Nabbanja also interfaced with residents of Kiyuuni and Kyereere villages who had been evicted from land they had been occupying.
According to Nabbanja, the government acquired this land from the landlord last year on behalf of the tenants, and the process of generating individual land titles for the affected households is underway.
