Communities in Hoima City have been tasked to lead a campaign of ending HIV infections in their area.
According to Robinah Tibakanya, a HIV/AIDS Activist, community members need to join their leaders’ efforts in spreading the gospel of protective mechanisms against virus while their leaders ensure drugs especially the ARVs to ensure no new infections are registered in the coming years.
Tibakanya says HIV prevalence is still at worrying levels especially in Hoima City. She however says the responsibility of fighting and ending the virus belongs to the people who have committed to unite themselves on embracing the available mechanisms of protecting themselves.
Meanwhile the HIV Activist says since US President Donald Trump’s cut on aid to the country, many NGOs who used to offer HIV/AIDS services have closed yet they were vital in contributing towards ending the virus and has tasked the government to double its effort in ensuring all the required services are available across all health facilities.
Uganda on Monday joined the rest of the World to commemorate the World AIDS day with the National Celebrations in Bushenyi district under the theme “Building a Sustainable HIV Response to End AIDS.
