The Hoima Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has disclosed that lack of monitoring of government schools by local leaders is affecting the performance of the learners.
According to Emmanuel Ssempala, there are very many bright children in most Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools however they have not been fully cared for to bring out their full potential due to the fact that political and technical leaders have left schools to operate on their own without supervision.
Ssempala cited an experience he encountered at Iguru I primary school in Bombo Sub County where he found a teacher giving answers to the learners during an assessment, a culture he has condemned saying it leads to poor outcomes among the leaders who are later affected in their field of work.
Ssempala who was addressing participants during the budget conference held at the Youth Center in Kasingo on Thursday rallied leaders to wake up and push teachers and other school authorities, telling them the truth to mind after these learners if their performance is to improve. He expressed disappointment over some of the teachers who have failed to exhibit professionalism in their day-to-day activities.
Jackson Mulindambura the district councillor for Kiganja Sub County disclosed that some of the teachers in government schools have cheated learners through absconding adding that there is a rise of two categories of learners: the academically excellent children and those with a poor education background. He says there is need to bring a change across all government schools especially regarding their operations.
