The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has criticized the NRM government for failing to combat rampant land grabbing and illegal evictions in the Bunyoro sub-region and other parts of the country.
Speaking to the media at Hoima Kolping Hotel on Wednesday morning ahead of his campaign rallies in the region, Mafabi said hundreds of people had been brutally and forcefully evicted from their ancestral land, while others continue to face eviction threats. He accused the government of turning a blind eye to the crisis.
Mafabi said that, if elected president, he would give special attention to resolving land issues in the Bunyoro sub-region and ensure that no one is evicted from their land. He added that the NRM government must be held accountable for the widespread land grabbing and evictions, calling for compensation or resettlement of victims to achieve justice.
Mafabi urged the people of Bunyoro to stand firm and protect their land from individuals connected to the regime.
Mafabi also encouraged residents of Bunyoro to position themselves to benefit from opportunities arising from oil and gas exploration in the region. He advised locals to invest in sectors such as hospitality, tourism, transport, accommodation, logistics, security, construction, and engineering, as well as food supply, to benefit from the oil and gas industry.
