In a move to empower boy children, the Rotary Club of Hoima has skilled 14 ghetto youth from Hoima City in Automotive Mechanics under the Bunyoro Ghetto Youth Skilling Project.
The boys who have been undergoing hands-on training for weeks received their workshop handover yesterday at Republic Road, Hoima City.
Speaking at the handover, the Rotary President Rtn. Kunihira Mark said the project was born out of concern that many programs focus on the girl child while the boy child is left on the streets to battle unemployment, drug abuse and crime among others.
Kunihira revealed that as Rotary, they believe when you skill a boy, you secure a family, a community and the future of Bunyoro.
He further revealed that the 14 boys are no longer ghetto youth but are now mechanics who can employ themselves.
The Project Ambassador Ms. Catherine Mirungi who has been supervising the training said the 14 trainees have shown great discipline and commitment.
Murungi said that the trainees barely had a skill in life can now dismantle and repair an engine and can now use the skills acquired to also earn a living.
The Rotary Club of Hoima now calls upon well-wishers and partners to support the graduates with more tool kits and start-up capital and also employ them to make the Republic Road workshop fully operational
Some of the beneficiaries expressed joy, thanking Rotary Club of Hoima for restoring hope in their lives after being abandoned in the ghetto areas.
