Man Arrested Over Killing Kakumiro LCI Chairperson

Police in Kakumiro district is holding a suspect for allegedly engaging in the murder of the former LCI Chairperson for Gamugole village in Nkoko Sub County in the district.

The suspect has been identified as John Turinawe and was arrested from Apa village in Amuria district on Wednesday and was later transferred to Kakumiro district where the crime was committed. The deceased chairperson is Benon Byaruhanga who was the former chairperson of Gamugole village in Nkooko Sub County in Kakumiro district.

SP Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine South regional police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest saying that the suspect allegedly committed the crime in February this year and since then he has been on police’s wanted list.

Hakiiza says the suspect will be presented before courts of law to answer charges of murder in order to ensure justice prevails.
