Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has appointed Eng. Joselynne R Rwakakooko as its Acting Managing Director, in a leadership change that comes as the state utility takes on an expanded role in the country’s electricity distribution network.

In a statement issued Saturday, the Board said Rwakakoko’s appointment takes immediate effect and is part of “recent governance and management changes” at the company.

She replaces Paul Mwesigwa, who the Board credited for his service over the years.

Rwakakoko brings more than two decades of experience in electricity distribution, commenrcial operations and utility management, having served with UEDCL’s senior management ranks.

The transition comes at a pivotal moment for Uganda’s power sector.

The management of the company has reassured the public and investors that leadership change would not disrupt service delivery.

Uganda’s electricity demand has been rising steadily, driven by industrialization, urbanization and government programmes aimed at expanding connections.
