President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has challenged the Uganda Police Force to join the fight against corruption.
This was contained in his message delivered by the Minister State for Internal Affairs, David Muhoozi, during the pass out of Probation Police Constables and the Immigration Officers at Kabalye Police Training School Masindi on Tuesday.
A total of 3,444 probation police constables and 53 immigration control officers were passed out after undergoing nine months and three months training respectively.
Museveni stressed that corruption undermines the growth of the economy, because it inconveniences the businesses people who want to invest in Uganda.
He also noted that if the business people are frustrated by public servants and politicians who ask for bribes and embezzlement of public funds, the economy will not grow.
He also tasked the police force to tackle crimes such as murder to ensure suspects are arrested and punished, stressing that if not arrested, it undermines the law and security.
James Ochaya, the Deputy Inspector of Police (DIGP) said the police is implementing the sub county policing model and they have effectively deployed in 17 policing regions out of 19 so far covering 997 sub counties in 103 districts
He noted that they are receiving positive feedback from the community members about the sub county policing model.
Ochaya further stated that they aim to recruit 10,000 probation police constables which has commenced and another slot will join the institution in June this year.
