The police in Kibaale are investigating the murder of an 8-year-old girl whose body was discovered floating in River Nguse in Kitooma village, Mataale sub-county. According to information obtained by Uganda Radio Network (URN), children who had gone fishing saw an object wrapped in a sack floating on the river. They immediately informed area residents, who later discovered that it was a child’s body.

Sande Ssali, the area LCI Chairperson, reported the matter to Kibaale police, who promptly arrived at the scene. He noted that the child was not known to the residents, suggesting that she might have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in the river.

No reports of a missing child had been filed in the area, further deepening the mystery surrounding her death. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the child’s body was found with both hands and legs tied with a rope before being wrapped in a sack and dumped in the river.

Police transported the body to Kibaale General Hospital for a postmortem examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that the child was strangled before being discarded in the river. Hakiza assured the public that a manhunt for the suspects is ongoing and urged residents to cooperate with detectives by providing any useful information that could lead to arrests. No one had come forward to claim the body of the deceased girl by the time of filing this story.
