Falling Metal Kills Employee at CPF in Buliisa

Tragedy struck at the Central Processing Facility (CPF) in Kasinyi village, Ngwedo Sub County, Buliisa district, when a worker was fatally hit by a falling steel beam from a trailer.

The deceased, identified as Maxwell Atuganyira, 30 was a resident of Kigoya village in Buliisa Sub County. The incident occurred on Tuesday February 11, 2025, at around 1PM.

Atuganyira was employed by Steadfast Crane Services, a company subcontracted by Essar Crane Services Company, to offload construction materials at the CPF.

Jai Prakash Gupta, an instruction Engineer with Essar Crane Services Company, confirmed the incident, stating that Atuganyira was struck by falling metal from a trailer and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to a nearby clinic.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost our staff member, Atuganyira. He was hit by a falling steel beam and, despite efforts to save him, he passed away at our clinic,” Gupta stated.

Following the incident, operations at the CPF were temporarily halted as investigations commenced.

William Muhinga, the father of the deceased, is appealing for the support from the company since his child has left a family behind and has been paying tuition for his children and siblings.

Muhinga also appeals to the company to foot the burial expenses for his son and also pay tuition for his children stressing that the future of his children now hangs in balance.

When contacted at the time of filling this story, Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson stated he was still in the meeting.
