The Hoima district health department is concerned over the increasing cases of Mpox disease in the district and Bunyoro region at large.
According to the latest data from the ministry of health, there are 653 cumulative cases of Mpox and two deaths registered since the disease was confirmed in the country on July 24, 2024.
Now Richard Kwikiriza the surveillance officer for Hoima district says Hoima district registered 3 cases since last week where he says the responsibility of fighting and ending the disease is a responsibility of everyone.
Kwikiriza revealed this during a media engagement on status of Mpox disease in the country organized by Hoima district local government in partnership with USAID Social and Behavior Change Activity held at Hoima district main hall in Kasingo, Hoima city on Wednesday.
Rosemary Nsiimenta the Hoima district health educator says the Mpox disease are being managed symptomatically after one has been infected by the disease just like how it was done during the Covid 19 era.
She reveals that they are managing a case as symptoms arise since there is no current vaccine for the disease in the country.
She further disclosed they are mobilizing the public to embrace standard operating procedures (SOPs) for infection prevention and control (IPCs) where they are encouraging the locals to avoid body contacts, wash hands and maintaining a distance because the disease is spreading quickly through body contact.
