Three people were murdered in the Albertine region on Sunday. In one of the incidents, Sunday Jino 35, a resident of Bweyale town council in Kiryandongo was waylaid by unknown assailants who hacked him to death.
The incident happened at around 11 pm within Bweyale town council. Joseph Olama, a resident in the area explains that the deceased was last seen at Bweyale trading center on Sunday evening at around 7 pm. He says later at around 11:30 pm, locals discovered his body with deep cuts lying in a pool of blood by the roadside.
They immediately alerted the police who rushed and picked the body which was later taken to Kiryandongo hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
In another incident that happened in Kikuube district, a 31-year-old man was lynched by a mob during a burial ceremony in Muhwiju village, Bugambe sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Jowel Mugume, a resident of Ruyanja cell in Kibingo ward, Hoima west division in Hoima city. This happened on Sunday afternoon at around 4pm. It is reported that the deceased while at a burial ceremony in Muhwiju village was caught red-handed pick-pocketing from mourners.
At the time he was arrested, he was caught removing money from the pocket of a man only identified as Jona. Some of the mourners reportedly pounced on him beating him to death. Police were notified and rushed but they could not do much since he had already breathed his last.
His body was picked up by Police who took it to Hoima city mortuary pending postmortem.
The third murder involved a 35-year-old man who was reportedly lynched by a mob in Kahyoro village, Kyebando sub-county in Kibaale district for allegedly stealing a goat. The deceased is identified as Rutalemwa Bizibu. The incident happened on Saturday evening at around 6 pm.
It is reported that the deceased while carrying a suspected stolen goat on a motorcycle registration number UFU 114R Bajaj was intercepted by area residents who demanded a document authorizing him to transport the goat. He reportedly failed to avail the residents of the necessary documents allowing him to transport the goat. Area residents pounced on him beating him to death.
They also attempted to set the motorcycle ablaze but it was rescued by police who were called in and intervened. Police picked up the body and took it to Kibaale health center IV mortuary pending postmortem. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says in all the murders, no suspect has been arrested adding that all cases are being investigated.
