Kikuube district COVID-19 task force on Thursday banned with immediate effect cooking food at funerals whether the deceased have succumbed to Covid-19 or natural death.

This comes after the district registered 11 Covid-19 cumulative deaths in a period of three weeks in this second wave of the pandemic. In the first wave Kikuube district recorded only one death.

Amlan Tumusiime, the Resident District Commissioner Kikuube who also doubles as the chairperson of the Covid-19 task force said that it has come to their notice that some people still cook food for the mourners, a practice that leads to many people to gather in defiance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the fight against Covid-19.

Kikuube district has registered 316 cumulative Covid-19 cases and currently 21 people are under treatment at Kasonga Covid-19 treatment Unit.

The number of recoveries is 212 people both at the Covid-19 treatment unit for Kikuube district at Kasonga and those under Home-based care have been discharged

Kikuube district chairman Peter Banura assured the health workers that the government had released some support to respond to emergencies in the Covid-19 fight and the issues affecting the health workers shall be prioritized.

Banura appealed to the development partners operating in Kikuube district to support the district with fuel and other logistical requirements to manage the situation.
