Motorists in Hoima City have expressed concern over the failure by Hoima city authorities to fix open manholes along various roads.

The manhole covers were stolen between 2019 to this year. The affected roads include Rukurato, Bunyoro Kitara, Persy, Kabalega, Wright, Main Street and Republic roads.

Residents and motorists Spice FM spoke to in the central business area say the open manholes present a safety risk to road users, especially pedestrians and school-going children who use the walkways.

Anthony Murungi and Marvin Murungi all boda-boda cyclists who perate along Rukurato road are calling for immediate intervention by the City Authorities to have the stolen Manhole covers fixed.

When contacted, Grace Mary Mugasa the interim Hoima City Mayor says they have already sourced some funds to fix the manholes.

An evaluation undertaken recently by the former Hoima Municipal council authorities indicated that each cover costs up to 650,000 Shillings.
