{"id":2353,"date":"2021-02-15T13:19:49","date_gmt":"2021-02-15T13:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spicefmhoima.com\/?p=2353"},"modified":"2022-01-19T12:05:24","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T12:05:24","slug":"36-nup-supporters-denied-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/2021\/02\/15\/36-nup-supporters-denied-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"36 NUP Supporters Denied Bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By John Bosco Tugume<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2355 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-300x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/02\/image.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The General Court Martial in Makindye has denied bail to 36 supporters of National Unity Platform who are facing charges of illegal possession of ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>A seven member panel led by Lt General Andrew Gutti has denied bail to the group\u00a0 on grounds that they were involved in acts of violence when they were being arrested and such actions are most likely to continue if granted bail.<\/p>\n<p>As such, the Court dismissed their application for bail and directed the military prosecutors to expedite investigations such that hearing can commence.<\/p>\n<p>The Court relied on an affidavit\u00a0 that was filed by the Prosecution led by Major Emmy Ekyaruhanga and Captain Ambroze Guma opposing the\u00a0 bail application.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutors had adduced an affidavit sworn by\u00a0 Detective Assistant Inspector of Police Peter Wetaaka who is attached to Criminal Investigations Department of Police in Kibuli.<\/p>\n<p>Wetaaka said\u00a0 that by the time the applicants\u00a0 were arrested, they were inciting violent protests and were of violent conduct towards police officers who arrested them from Kalangala district.<\/p>\n<p>Wetaaka further argued that the applicants who are part of a group of 49 were most likely to continue the same behaviors and they should not be granted bail<\/p>\n<p>Those denied bail are:<\/p>\n<p>Ali Bukeni Alias Nubian Li , Edward Ssebufu alias Eddie Mutwe,\u00a0\u00a0Hassan Ssemakula alias Abdul Soldier, Kenny Kyalimpa , Mudde Ntambi, William Nyanzi alias Mbogo, Lukeman Mwijukye alias Kampala, Muhammad Nsubuga alias Edobozi,\u00a0 \u00a0Adam Matovu, Shakirah Nambozo alias Sukie,\u00a0 Ibrahim Tamale, Muzafuru Mwanje alias Main Gate alias Muwa , Ismail Nyanzi Kaddu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By John Bosco Tugume The General Court Martial in Makindye has denied bail to 36 supporters of National Unity Platform who are facing charges of illegal possession of ammunition.
