{"id":11569,"date":"2026-10-15T10:23:34","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T10:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/?p=11569"},"modified":"2026-10-15T10:45:22","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T10:45:22","slug":"kiryandongo-general-hospital-anaesthetist-arrested-over-extortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/2026\/10\/15\/kiryandongo-general-hospital-anaesthetist-arrested-over-extortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiryandongo General Hospital Anaesthetist Arrested over Extortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Flavia Ajok<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Police in Kiryandongo District have arrested an anaesthetist attached to Kiryandongo General Hospital over allegations of extorting Shs150,000 from a patient\u2019s relative during an emergency operation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Moses Baluku, a resident of the hospital staff quarters in Kiryandongo Town Council, was arrested on Tuesday at around 8pm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, told our reporter on Wednesday evening that the incident involved a 22-year-old patient, Winnie Zamukunda, who was taken to the theatre for emergency surgery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Mugisa, police investigations indicate that the patient\u2019s paternal aunt, Georgina Kabaseke, allegedly handed over Shs150,000 to Baluku during the process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Police findings indicate that the patient had a tear in her uterus and required immediate surgery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mugisa said the matter was brought to the attention of the Resident District Commissioner, prompting police to intervene and arrest the anaesthetist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mugisa said the money was recovered and statements recorded from some individuals as investigations into the alleged extortion continued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">He added that a case of extortion had been registered at Kiryandongo Central Police Station under reference number CRB 695\/2026 and circumstances under which the money was allegedly demanded or received remain subject to further investigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Acting Regional Police Mouthpiece said suspect is currently detained at Kiryandongo Central Police Station and is expected to be arraigned before court to answer charges once investigations are complete.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mugisa has appealed to members of the public who have allegedly been extorted to record statements at Kiryandongo Central Police Station to support the investigations and help secure evidence for prosecution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Flavia Ajok Police in Kiryandongo District have arrested an anaesthetist attached to Kiryandongo General Hospital over allegations of extorting Shs150,000 from a patient\u2019s relative during an emergency operation.
