{"id":11567,"date":"2026-10-15T10:22:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T10:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/?p=11567"},"modified":"2026-10-15T10:43:44","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T10:43:44","slug":"pm-nabbanja-seeks-wfps-intervention-in-ending-famine-in-karamoja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/2026\/10\/15\/pm-nabbanja-seeks-wfps-intervention-in-ending-famine-in-karamoja\/","title":{"rendered":"PM Nabbanja Seeks WFP\u2019s Intervention in Ending Famine in Karamoja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Johnson Kanyesige<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has requested the World Food Programme Executive Director\u00a0Carl Skau to help the government of Uganda in finding a more sustainable method of ending famine in Karamoja Sub region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The premier wants WFP to assist Uganda in building valley dams in Karamoja to provide water for irrigation during the dry seasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nabbanja who is on official visit in Rome Italy paid a courtesy call to the World Food Programme headquarters in Rome and held bi lateral engagements with WFP boss Carl Skau.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">World Food Programme headquartered in Rome Italy has for decades been a key partner with Uganda in solving famine in Karamoja subregion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, the Prime minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja is of the view that Karamoja can feed itself once the region is provided with necessary tools like water for irrigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">She requested him to help the government of Uganda in finding a more sustainable method of ending famine in Karamoja Sub region through building valley dams in Karamoja in order to provide water for irrigation during the dry seasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carl Skau in his response committed to identifying technical persons to advise the government of Uganda and also solicit funding for Karamoja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">She further requested for support for sustainable funding to cater for the over 2 million refugees in Uganda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier, the prime minister also held bi lateral talks with Dr Qu Dongyu\u00a0 the\u00a0 Director General of the Food and\u00a0 Agricultural Organisation FAO which is also headquartered in Rome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nabbanja called upon Dr Qu to speed up the processing of implementing the Green cities Initiative for Kampala and Hoima cities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr Qu pledged to continue giving Uganda all the necessary technical support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Johnson Kanyesige The Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has requested the World Food Programme Executive Director\u00a0Carl Skau to help the government of Uganda in finding a more sustainable method of ending famine in Karamoja Sub region.
