{"id":11559,"date":"2026-10-09T07:32:24","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T07:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/?p=11559"},"modified":"2026-10-09T08:13:41","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T08:13:41","slug":"several-masindi-local-govt-staff-flee-following-minister-balaams-directives-of-arrest-over-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spicemedia.ug\/spicefm\/2026\/10\/09\/several-masindi-local-govt-staff-flee-following-minister-balaams-directives-of-arrest-over-corruption\/","title":{"rendered":"Several Masindi Local Gov&#8217;t Staff Flee Following Minister Balaam&#8217;s Directives of Arrest Over Corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Flavia Ajok<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">A significant number of staff at Masindi district local government and the Municipality have fled following a directive issued by local government Minister Balaam Barugahara for the arrest of those implicated in corruption, abuse of office, extortion and mismanagement of government projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The officials from departments including works, finance, production, procurement, education, health and water were named during Barugahara\u2019s \u201cExpose the Corrupt Campaign\u201d on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Barugahara ordered for the arrests of several staff including Engineers, Commercial officers, Parish Development Model (PDM) officials, Emyooga officials, and Education authorities among others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spice FM has reliably established that most of the said staff have fled the district and gone into hiding following the directive issued to have them arrested and charged accordingly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Thursday, most of the district and Municipal staff being implicated in corrupt tendencies did not report for work at their respective offices allegedly fearing to be arrested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">A source at the Masindi district headquarters who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said by 11 a.m., almost all staff implicated had not reported for work and it is feared they are evading arrests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Samuel Kasaija, Masindi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) said all the staff being implicated in corruption tendencies will be arrested for action to be taken against them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pensive Tukasiima, the Masindi District Police Commander (DPC) vowed to implement the directive issued by Minister Balaam to have the implicated civil servants arrested and charged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those targeted include Benjamin Byarugaba, the former Chairperson of the Masindi District Service Commission, and Angela Nyandera, the current Secretary of the commission, over allegations of extorting money from job seekers and selling government jobs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">This was after several people testified against the two officials during the meeting, alleging that they were asked to pay between Shs5 million and Shs20 million for government jobs but never received the positions after making the payments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Flavia Ajok A significant number of staff at Masindi district local government and the Municipality have fled following a directive issued by local government Minister Balaam Barugahara for the arrest of those implicated in corruption, abuse of office, extortion and mismanagement of government projects.
