Joseph Kabuleeta, the party president of the opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) has announced plans to stand for Presidency, while ruling out joining political coalitions that lack shared values and long-term national values.

Kabuleeta stood for Presidency in the 2021 general elections won by President Museveni where he polled 45, 424 votes obtaining 0.44% of the total ballots cast.

Speaking to the media at the party offices in Rubaga on Monday, Kabuleeta confirmed that he will stand again for top office adding that he was just testing waters in the previous election of 2021.

“Everything I did during that election was for this reason, I didn’t expect that I was going to cause a ripple but now you wait and see. It might not look like it right now but now you wait and see how we are going to cause a splash if not a tsunami because the time is right and everything is hooking in my favour” Kabuleeta added.

Kabuleeta said in most cases political coalitions are after financial gains adding that as NEED party, they will only join a coalition after proving that they are principles and on a right agenda. His clarification comes at a time of renewed calls within opposition circles to unify against the National Resistance Movement (NRM) regime led by President Museveni.

Meanwhile, the NEED party president has also announced plans to officially launch the party on July 23 after receiving a certificate of registration from the electoral commission late last month.
