Easter Celebrations: Bunyoro Kitara Diocese Cleans Hoima City

The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese on Wednesday joined Christians and the leadership of Hoima City for a cleaning campaign across different streets and parts of the city ahead of Easter celebrations.

The annual campaign led by the diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Jacob Ateirweho Amooti started from Hoima Central market to Persey Street, Hoima Booma grounds, Duhaga round about, diocesan headquarters among other areas with a call to the locals to always join in, to ensure a clean City during holidays.

Rev Janepher Ssetabbi, the Women ministry coordinator in the diocese revealed that as a ministry in the diocese, they conduct this activity together with all churches in Hoima denary every year during Christmas and Easter festivities to promote cleanliness as they preach the word of God.

Rev Ssetabbi has called on the local residents to always participate in the cleaning campaign because it is meant to keep the city clean and do away with health hazards arising from poor hygiene and sanitation.

Achilles Kiiza, the secretary for health at the city has commended Christians in the diocese for keeping up with the campaign and challenged dwellers to ensure they effectively manage their garbage by not dumping it in illegal areas like drainage channels among others. He has also tasked the landlords to construct toilets for their tenants to minimize on poor disposal of fecal matter.

Bishop Ateirweho, on the other hand, commended the city leadership for their efforts in maintaining the city clean adding that he has travelled through several cities and towns across the country where he says Hoima city is fairly doing well in terms of maintaining cleanliness.

He called on the people of God to embrace righteous living as the Holy week gets underway.
