A 10-year-old boy has been killed, and his body burned by unknown individuals under unclear circumstances in Mwitanzige Sub County, Kakumiro District.
The body of the deceased was found on Wednesday, dumped along Kakumiro Road in Mwitanzigye Trading Centre, Kateebe LCI.
The deceased is Samuel Tusingwire, a resident of Omukikona in Kitaihuka Sub County. It is suspected that Samuel might have been killed elsewhere during the night, and the assailants dumped his body in Mwitanzigye.
One of the residents says that the deceased may have been killed by an angry mob while stealing, noting that criminal activities, especially theft, have become rampant in the area. He suggests that police patrols should be intensified to curb criminality in Mwitanzigye.
The Kateebe chairperson LCI, Yonasan Kyalikunda, urges his residents to be security-conscious in order to fight crime, thereby creating peace and harmony in the area.
Meanwhile, Officer in Charge of Mwitanzige Police Station, ASP Ivan Kawooya, condemns the actions of residents taking the law into their own hands, noting that suspects should be reported to the police to allow the law to take its course.
He says that investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances under which Samuel was killed.
By press time, an autopsy had already been conducted, and one suspect had also been arrested to aid the police in the investigations.
