The police in Kakumiro have intercepted and impounded a Toyota Super Custom vehicle, registration number UBD 356B, for allegedly transporting suspected stolen cows. The vehicle was reportedly intercepted in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 3 a.m. between Kakindo and Kihuna villages along the Hoima-Kakumiro road in Kakumiro District.

Upon interception, the occupants of the vehicle reportedly fled to an unknown destination, abandoning the vehicle. Police recovered three suspected stolen cows inside the vehicle. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, stated that they set up a roadblock following a tip-off from concerned residents.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the cows were stolen from Butema village in Hoima District. However, documents found in the vehicle suggest that the suspects may have originated from Kasangati in Wakiso District.

Hakiza confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the suspected thieves, intending to arrest and prosecute them accordingly. He added that the police are working closely with the local community to identify the rightful owner of the recovered animals. The recovered cows are currently being held at Kakumiro Central Police Station along with the impounded vehicle.
