Police in Budaka district are investigating the circumstances under which an 82-year-old woman died in a pit latrine. The incident occurred on Monday at Naigabya village, Bwase ward, Budaka town council.
The deceased has been identified as Magret Nakalyesi, a resident of Naigabya village, Bwase ward, Budaka district. It is alleged that Nakalyesi, who was partially blind due to old age, was found dead inside a 20-foot-deep pit latrine that had been dug by her neighbor, Sabano Joan, for future use.
Samuel Semewo, the Bukedi North Police spokesperson, said police received a report about the incident from Wasoma Dongo, the LC1 Chairperson of Naigabya village. Following the report, officers retrieved Nakalyesi’s body and transported it to Budaka Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
“A team of SOCOs (Scene of Crime Officers) and detectives documented the scene and recorded necessary statements as part of the ongoing investigation,” Semewo said. No suspects have been arrested yet, and police investigations are ongoing.
