The National Identification Registration Authority (NIIRA), has commenced a mass registration exercise for people without national IDs in Hoima city, Hoima and Kikuube districts as well as across the other regions in the country.

The exercise dubbed phase one, begun on September 27, 2024 and will go on until November 23, lasting for 53 days.

According to Eveline Kiiza, the district registrar, NIIRA Hoima branch, which covers Hoima City, Kikuube and Hoima districts, the exercise is intended to cover all unregistered voters to include them on the national voter register, and ensure no one is left out without the important document required to access most of the services nowadays.

Kiiza says they are registering Ugandans aged 17 years and above, adding that they are camped in all public places like schools, worship centres, sports facilities among others.

She calls on everyone to register for a national ID so as to be able to get onto the voter’s register.
