The embattled Bunyoro Kingdom Prime Minister, Andrew Byakutaga has petitioned President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over the ongoing conflicts in the Kingdom.

He informed President Museveni about a clique of a few individuals who are destabilizing the Kingdom through dubious sales of Kingdom properties and attempting to usurp the power of the King by appointing a Prime Minister, Cabinet, and Parliament, much as they know they don’t have the mandate to do so.

Byakutaga, however, appreciated security agencies that have worked tooth and nail to keep peace and stability at the Kingdom headquarters.

Byakutaga informed the president that together with the royal commission and the interreligious council of Bunyoro, they have invited clan heads for an engagement on the current challenges and the meeting.

He was speaking Friday, September 20, 2024, during the president’s meeting with the leaders from the Bunyoro sub region aimed at tackling youth unemployment and promoting community development held at Balaam’s five-star hotel gardens.

President Museveni, however, did not respond to the matter. In 2022, Museveni said that he never wanted to involve himself in the matters of cultural institutions, saying they would be reinstituted in order to create peace and unity.

On his part, Balaam Barugahara, the Minister State for Children and Youth Affairs, told the president that there are few individuals from the Kingdom and Lands Ministry who want to grab square miles of land neighboring Budongo Forest and Murchison Falls National Park.

He therefore prayed that the Kingdom release the land to the NFA and UWA for 50 years to safeguard it from the grabbers.
