In the bustling village of Kinogozi East in Kinogozi parish, Buhimba Sub County in Hoima district a man named Ashraf Kyaligonza found himself immersed in a whirlwind of emotions after his young daughter underwent a delicate heart surgery in India in March this year.
On March 28, 2024, eight-year-old Rahuma Ajuna, the last born of Kyaligonza underwent a heart surgery at Namar Heart Hospital in India following a heart complication she had suffered for years.
The weight of uncertainty and fear pressed heavily on Ajuna’s father’s shoulders, but amidst the chaos, he discovered a profound sense of gratitude and appreciation for Spice FM for the support offered to him.
Kyaligonza whose child had been referred to India by the Uganda Heart Institute needed Sh22m for the heart operation but unfortunately his family could not raise it despite the urgency of the matter.
Kyaligonza found solace in Spice FM that led an on air campaign to mobilise funds to ensure the child is successfully operated on.
The mobilization campaign was also graced by several well-wishers including the Rotary Club of Uganda, Mulago heart institute, the Indian Association of Uganda, religious leaders, community members and local leaders who contributed cash and in-kind support towards the child.
The operation day arrived, Kyaligonza stood outside the hospital, his heart pounding in sync with the clock’s ticking hands. Hours felt like eternity until finally, the news came – the surgery was successful.
Overwhelmed with relief, Kyaligonza’s eyes welled up with tears, not just for his daughter’s newfound chance at life, but for the unwavering support he received from his Spice FM, friends, and even strangers during this trying time.
