The Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah has said that Bunyoro public university will co-exist with Bulera Core PTC at the same location.
Nabbanja made the pronouncement during an update meeting on the progress of Bunyoro Public University attended by the minister of state for public service, Mary Grace Mugasa, the Solicitor general Francis Atoke, Permanent secretaries of the ministry of Education Ketty Lamaro and Dunstan Balaba from OPM, and Bulera Core PTC governing board members.
The operationalization of Bunyoro public university has dragged on due to lack of land where it will be located.
The prime minister says that Bunyoro University was promised by President Yoweri Museveni and must start as soon as possible.
Previously there was a resolution to relocate Bulera Core PTC to Masindi but now both institutions shall be accommodated at Bulera.
Nabbanja says that government has already earmarked 45bn shillings to kick start Bunyoro and Busoga Universities in the coming financial year budget and there shouldn’t be any delays.
Jacob Karubanga the chairperson of Bunyoro Parliamentary caucus says that all the stakeholders agree that the two institutions co-exist to serve the region.
Ketty Lamaro, the permanent secretary in the ministry of education and sports says that as a ministry they have been waiting for three years to have the land issue resolved.
Prof Samuel Kyamanywa, the Chairperson taskforce for the establishment of Bunyoro Public University says that they are ready to start the process of registering the University once the issue of land is resolved.
Stakeholders want the University to start next academic year.
The University intends to promote work integrated learning and on the job training through transformative rural and urban development.
The University main campus shall be located at Bulera Core PTC in Hoima and will operate a collegiate system located in different districts in the sub region.
