Masindi District councilors are divided over the election of committee leaders. Some of them have accused speaker Moses Kirya of bias and faulting rules of procedure to elect committee members and leaders.

This was during a council meeting which was convened to elect council committee members since the term of the outgoing committee expired last month.

During the meeting, the majority of councilors wanted the speaker to renew the term of office to the existing committees without subjecting them to a vote. But some councilors opposed the idea.

Christopher Achidri the councilor representing Nyantonzi sub county laid the motion endorsing that the committee members whose term has expired to be renewed without subjecting them to voting before the speaker.

Evelyn Ayebale, the female youth councillor for Masindi district says when someone does good, he or she deserves to be appreciated giving an example with NRM members they give another term to president always because he does well thus saw it well to renew the committee members term of office.

However, Simon Byaruhanga the district male youth councilor says that the rules of procedures are clear with elections of the committee members will be by secret ballot thus saying anyone who wants to appreciate these committee members for their good work can only be expressed through the vote.

Wahid Babyesiza the councilor for Labongo Sub County reveals that if the speaker does not let them vote, they will challenge him in courts of law since it’s very clear in the rules of procedure that voting should be by secret ballot.
