Local communities and local leaders in Nyalweyo town council and Nyalweyo sub-county in Kakumiro district have a reason to smile following the launch of a new initiative that will enable them get access to safe and clean water.
The initiative that seeks to repair and construct shallow wells is being supported by Naseco Seed Company. Locals from the villages of Kihinge, Kadiki, Irindimura Karokarungi, Katuugo, Buruuko and Nyalweyo are set to benefit from the initiative.
Speaking at the launch held at Nyalweyo town council hall, Gerald Tibahwerwa, the councillor for Irindimura parish says the rehabilitation and construction of shallow wells in the area is big relief to the community.
He says that several local communities have been sharing unclear water with wild animals due to inadequate clean and safe water sources in the area.
He says that several boreholes that were constructed by the district broke down leaving the areas water stressed.
Immaculate Niwemugabe a resident of Kadiki village expressed excitement saying the construction and repair the boreholes in the area will save them from sharing dirty water with wild dogs and monkeys from the swamps.
She explains that their only one borehole which was constructed 10 years broke down three years ago and they have been drawing water from Kadiki swamp.
She commended NASECO Seed Company for repairing the borehole saying they are now consuming safe and clean water and this will promote good health.
Nicolai Rodeyns, the managing Director of NASECO Seed Company says the initiative is one of the efforts aimed at promoting accessibility of save and clean waters to the community for the promotion of good health.
Tom Katwesige the Nyalweyo sub-county chairman commended the company for the initiative saying that the sub-county has several broken boreholes and sub-county has no funds to repair them.
