Turkish firm Summa International Construction Company has been given the green light to construct the Hoima stadium in Hoima City which is one of the approved stadiums to host the AFCON games in 2027.
Uganda will co-host the Afcon 2027 games jointly with Kenya and Tanzania the the dubbed “Pamoja bid”.
In a meeting held on Wednesday evening at State House Entebbe, where President Museveni approved the construction of the stadium, the Turkish company was proposed for the billion-dollar project that is expected to be complete by December 2025.
The president also approved the renovation of Masindi stadium which will act as a training ground for different teams during the AFCON tournament.
Speaking to Spice FM on Thursday morning, Rogers Byamukama, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) executive member says the stadium has 25 months to be complete and the minister of education Janet Museveni will camp in Hoima and Masindi districts next week to conduct an on-sport assessment of the proposed venues in the two districts.
Byamukama adds that President Museveni approved a direct procurement process leading to the construction of the stadium since there is limited time for the works.
