Transport between Kakumiro and Kyankwanzi districts via Mpongo in Kisiita Sub County has been paralyzed after Mpongo swamp was cut off by heavy rains.
Mpongo Swamp that connects Kakumiro district in Kisiita Sub County and Kyankwanzi has been one of the major transport routes to Kyakwanzi.
The heavy rains that have pounded the area for two days have led to flooding of the swamp.
Moses Twimukye, the LC3 chairperson for Kisiita Sub County has called upon the government to come up and construct a permanent bridge asserting that it has been several times the floods sweeping away the temporary culverts.
He has however advised residents to stay a distance since the floods are still extending. He says the floods have so far swept way two people and one narrowly survived but his Motorcycle was moved by the floods.
Hon Agaba Aisha Black, the Bugangaizi East MP has however promised that works on the bridge will kick off very soon saying that she has already informed the Prime Minister and UNRA that has been working on the bridge before the calamity.
She has however sympathized with the business community saying that it is the season hence urging the community safe guard the food they have in their stores.
Other Swamps that have been affected by the heavy rains are Kanangaro that connects Nkooko in Kakumiro and Ntwetwe in Kyankwanzi and Nyamuguza swamp that connects Kibijo Sub County in Kakumiro to Butorogo in Mubende district.
