Hoima Police have arrested the Paacwa Sub-County NRM chairman Magezi Mubarak for allegedly extorting money from the residents promising to give them part of Bugoma Forest land for farming.
The Albertine Regional Police spokesperson SP Allan Julius Hakiza says the suspect was arrested on Wednesday following public outcry over the failure by Magezi to fulfill his pledge yet they had paid.
The complainants also accused officers at Kagadi police station of failing to handle their case a reason as to why they petitioned Hoima police.
Hakiza says the suspect will be handed over to Kagadi Police station where his files are awaiting legal guidance from the state attorney on the charges to be preferred against him.
He says after thorough investigations and preparing his file, he will be arraigned in courts of law for trial.
The Albertine Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza urges the members of the public not to lose trust in police asking them to always share information with police regarding the misconduct of some officers and other crime offences in their areas.
He says no individual is above the law asserting that who over commits crime faces the law accordingly.
